Capt. Janet Munkres, Weeping Water supporter of the Civil Air Patrol, chaperoned 12 girls in the CAP program during a recent visit to Nebraska City.

The Nebraska City cadets who greeted the girls, David Sackles, Bill Roberts, Steve Mason and Larry Wiles, were a credit to our town. The boys were dressed in uniforms and sparkled compared to the shorts and sneakers worn by the visitors from New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana.

Captain Munkres has worked seven years with the CAP program taking youngsters on tours.

Campbell Kropp, president of the Nebraska City Board of Education, noted at the meeting at which Bill Gray was hired as plant maintenance supervisor, that Mr. Gray will be in charge of $2.5 million in school properties. Quite a chunk.

Bill told the board that a number of years ago when he was employed by the government he visited Nebraska City with his wife, liked the town and decided they wanted to make their home here.

Originally from Indiana, Bill has worked on construction jobs from Indiana to Colorado and south to the Panama Canal Zone.

My ole' sea hoss buddy, Bill Fisher, Cook, was among those in Cook who sprouted long whiskers for the Cook Diamond Jubilee.

Bill and I were stationed at Pearl Harbor for a time.

He was chided by friends on the color of his whiskers, black as the ace of spades, quite a contrast to his blond hair.

Bill says he has forgotten how to do his "Mr. McGoo" imitation, but I'll wager his young son has coaxed him into doing it once in a while.

Dr. and Mrs. Paul (Janet Madsen) Davidson and son Martin, are probably the most comfortable people we know. They are in Anchorage, Alaska.

Up on the North 40.

Jim Attebery will leave July 25 for Formosa. He has airline tickets for flights from Omaha to Los Angeles, to Japan and Formosa. Jim will be on the island for six months, returning at the halfway mark for a vacation with his wife, Carol, and their four daughters.

Suggestion for the day: Hard surface the .5 of a mile driving lane in Steinhart park.
