Kicking in the spondulix

We better take off our hats to some of the airport enthusiasts who are kicking in the spondulix and time to develop an airport for Nebraska City.

The re-grading, leveling and hard-surfacing of Grundman airport is no peanuts job . . . and it has been left up to the people who want to fly or who want the facility for the town.

Talk about community development; we better all take a lesson.

The airport project is going to be pretty foxy when it comes to ribbon-cutting time. We all should be proud.

You'll like "Shenandoah" playing at the Pioneer theater.

It's a different sort of film and yet holds to the Civil War period. You'll like James Stewart as the widowed father with a large family and the events that occur.

There's the blood and guts of war, but you'll grasp the meaning of the word "family" when you see Stewart attempt to avoid a war and keep his family together.

Pioneer theater, by the way, will be spruced up a bit. Sid Metcalf says new carpeting will be put down soon.

Falls Citians are getting ready for a big event—the state corn-picking contest. Nebraska Citians will recall the state event held here just two years ago on the Overton farm south of town.

The Chamber did a fine job organizing the event.

Nebraska City's two district judges intend to keep the court dockets free of "to be continued" cases.

District Judge Walter Smith made that clear recently when be permitted the continuance of a case in court, but added that the case will be wrapped up the next term of court. It was a thought in which Judge Victor Schmidt also concurs.

We miss the late Judge John M. Dierks in the district court room.

He was a very busy man, but he always had a moment to explain some part of a case when we needed help.

If you ever get the yen to see how they figure your tax statement, stop in Assessor Howard Zimmers' office sometime and ask for a demonstration.

The tax computing machine installed some time ago, is a complicated piece of machinery with a built-in mechanical memory and automatic computor that figures your tax bill and makes five copies at the same time. No doubt it's a great time saver.

Best wishes to Col. Joe Ulatoski and family at their new station in Honolulu, Hawaii. The cononel was assigned as an advisor in Viet Nam and has now been transferred to Hawaii. That's a real change from bad to "choice" duty.

Never hear anymore how my ole 'sea farin' buddy Mustang Vince Armstrong is getting along. There's a sailor who can do a 30-year hitch and come out looking like he's 39 years old.
