Don't put it in the paper

The University of Nebraska football team should display one of its more glorious trompings of the year against Georgia in the Sun Bowl December 20.

Georgia lost its season finale 0-6 to Georgia Tech and a suggestion that the losers be pulled from bowl competition indicates a faltering team in the eyes of observers.

Husker Coach Bob Devaney is not known for "running up the score" despite the enthusiasm of many of his fans.

So, if the Georgia team is as poor as some think, then Devaney's bench will get a work out and you'll see a lot of new numbers.

I had planned on a comfortable hour of Red Skelton and the Mills Brothers the other night, but that was shredded when they flashed a special on the tube.

And the evening was even more interesting — Billy Graham spoke to the youth of Anaheim, California.

Mr. Graham's talks are always inspiring. His organization for the crusades is exacting and he seems to get to his audience.

He always seems to be well informed on current events and ties that in with the Bible which he holds in his hand and refers to consistently.

As he says over and over, "you've got to tell it like it is."

The sudden death of Mrs. Roger (Cheryl) Warren was a jolt at the News-Press.

Cheryl came to us shortly after high school and worked in several departments in the efficient and versatile manner in which we learned to appreciate.

She was also one of our best news tippers.

When she telephoned at 2 a.m., to report an ambulance or other emergency, we grabbed a camera and ran. She enjoyed the news department and we benefited from her interest in her job.

The loss of this fine young mother and co-worker is felt here at the News-Press.

If conversation is any indication, the annual athletic banquet sponsored by the Pioneer Boosters and Optimist clubs will be more exciting for sports fans than they've seen at such banquets in some time.

These boys are talking about speakers from the Green Bay Packers and you-know-who from the Chicago Bears and even the fireball hisself, Vince Gibson, fiery coach of the Kansas State football squad whose southern drawl is nothing but Alabamian.

They tell me we are going to see more of the low fat milk. Some say it is better for your body because there is less chance of heart failure.

Skimmed milk used to be the waste product of farmers. We prepared a mixture using skimmed milk for our Duroc hogs and considered the feeding program one of the best.

Skimmed milk today is a big product and it is consumed in many homes, ours included. I have to confess that I blow the good health plan all to pieces because one of my favorites is cold milk and sour cream chocolate cake.

There's a new type engine now in production and the possibility of it being used in American made cars is becoming apparent.

Canada is using the "rotary" engine in its economy car which compares in size with a Chevy II or an early Mustang. The engine is rated at 120 h.p.

The principal featureof the engine, aside of hopefully less cost and maintenance, is combustion at both ends of the stroke. The quietness of the motor was another feature.

Mebbe the electrics won't return after all.

Spiro Agnew is right.

We news people do twist or withold the news and today is one of those occasions.

A happy Nebraska City couple announced the other day they are expecting an addition to the family and they wanted to share the happiness of the moment with friends.

"But don't put it in the paper," his wife said.

To which we agreed.

Besides you wouldn't want to know anyway.

After all, you've probably known the couple for a long time; you know they have been in business many years and are active in church and civic clubs (yup, even bridge) and they have a handsome family of three children.

So, you see we wouldn't gain any "first with the news" 'cause you probably aren't interested any way . . .
