City Utilities is offering a new service in the hopes of saving energy and at the same time cut the bills of users.
Infrared aerial pictures of homes were taken in January and they're all put together for use by Utilities users, according to Manager Bill Brockley.
Although it cost City Utilities nearly $2,000 for the picture job, it doesn't cost you anything to look at the picture of your home at the office at 100 Central Avenue. Hours are 8 to 5 Monday through Friday.
Tree planting
The Arbor Day tree planting ceremonies were scheduled during the weekend, but the tree planting job was completed several days ago.
Craig Bergman, Arbor Lodge State Park superintendent and his staff, take care of the tree planting job several days ahead of time to assure that everything goes all right on the dedication day. On that day, the ceremony is a formal earthshoveling.
Congratulations to the honorees, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Livingston, who are honored with a Bradford Pear, Mrs. Frank Morrison, a Kwanzan Cherry and to Bud Dasenbrock, Lincoln, a Shag Bark Hickory.
There was one other special dedication and that was a Mountain Ash m memorial of slain police officer Gary White. He died from wounds sustained from a shotgun blast on July 9, 1977. He had only been on duty as a policeman a few days.
That tree ceremony was Saturday at Nuckolls park. Larry Boardman and his city park crew handled the planting arrangements.
Much success
Congratulations to Ken Kraenow, MFA agent, on the opening of his new office building at 111 So. 14th Street. Open house was held Thursday.
Ken is a native of the Cook community. He worked for Electro Gas before joining MFA 10 years ago. His sales awards attest to the success of his business and we congratulate him on his new move and wish him much success.
Prom night
Mrs. Duffey goofed it this year. She didn't go to the prom.
The N-P society editor has covered more proms over the years and heard more different bands and has seen more different decorating ideas, that she has "absorbed" some authority on the subject.
Well, Mrs. D, you missed a pip at NCHS last week. The kids all looked great. It was difficult to tell who was who because I kept looking for faded jeans and "holey" tennies.
We heard a lot of Mommas and Pappas remark how handsome the teen-agers appeared. We had to agree. We especially liked the choice of band. Oh, it was loud (Don Abernathy said that was about right for that kind of music), but it was good for the night. The singers were performers in that they walked onto the dance floor singing to the dancers. Pretty foxy job of entertaining, we observed.
Congratulations
to Roland Jensen who is the new president of the Nebraska City Jaycees, to Boyd Mayfield who was named Elk of the Year, to Kathy Saathoff on being tapped into the Midland Lutheran college chapter of Cardinal Key and to Donna Kuhlenengel, Syracuse, for winning the $100 Otoe County Home Extension club scholarship.
The sport
Bill Schock of the Falls City Journal tells the story about the golfer who paid his Country Club dues twice this year.
"A friend told us that since this guy generally takes twice as many strokes to get around the golf course, he apparently feels he must pay twice as much as anyone else."
