Once every 15,000 times

The Dunbar Review

The young wife was the new mother of triplets and a friend was extending congratulations. The young mother remarked how fantastic it was that the triplets were born and said.

"You know that it happens only once out of about 15,000 times."

The friend hesitated, then cautiously said.

"Goodness, it is amazing. I don't see how you had time to get all your housework done."

The Notebook

Art Sweet made an interesting point in his column the other day referring to the age bracket sought after by the TV ad people.

According to ARS, the TV ad people are after the 19 to 49 age bracket, but he contends his group buys such necessities as laxatives, bras and eye shadow.

Art, the Arizona hot weather hasn't gotten to you – keep up the good columns.

The airport

We goofed and didn't get down to Falls City for the airport show. We managed to piddle away most of the Sunday and it was after 4 p.m., before we thought much about the Falls City event.

It turns out we missed an especially good program according to the Journal. Not only were there 90 airplanes, a special lunch, parachutists and an aerial acrobat, there were many antique cars on display.

Thank you

to the Nebraska City Rotary club for selecting the rescue squad as the Rotary honoree for the community service award.

The squad was organized in 1967 under the leadership of the late Ed Harshbarger.

He ramrodded the beginning in "Ed's Way" by knocking on doors in the county asking people to donate hard cash to set up a county rescue service.

Two bases were established – the Nebraska City and Syracuse. In later years the two squads became independent and have since remained.

There is no pay for the volunteers. The rewards they receive are smiles from the faces of patients and most of the squadsmen would agree they're overpaid.

The weather man

The official weather observer for Nebraska City is now David Gress, diesel plant operator.

David takes over from Bob Gray who gave up the job because of construction and additional duties at the sanitation department.

Thanks, Bob for your very valuable weather help.

The church notes

We came across this "collection of church bulletins" the other day.

"This afternoon there will be a meeting in the south and north ends of the church. Children will be baptized at both ends."

"The service will close with 'Little Drops of Water.' One of the ladies will start quietly and the rest of the congregation will join in."

"On Sunday a special collection will be taken to defray the expenses of the new carpet. All those wishing to do something on the carpet please come forward and get a piece of paper."

"The ladies of the church have cast off clothing of every kind and they may be seen in the church basement on Friday afternoon."

"Thursday at 5 p.m. there will be a meeting of the Little Mothers club. All wishing to become little mothers will please meet with the minister in his study."

"Wednesday the Ladies Literary Society will meet. Mrs. Johnson will sing 'Put Me in My Little Bed' accompanied by the preacher."
